| Tradition, innovation and excellence are the characteristics of the scientific and education activity of the Department of Pharmacy (DIFARMA) of the University of Salerno. The origin of the connection between science and tradition can be traced back to the ancient Salerno Medical School which cornerstone were laicism, tolerance, equal opportunity and the mission was healthcare, prevention, balance between soma and psyche based on herbal remedies as well as the teaching experience. At DIFARMA the UNESCO Chair Plants for health in the Mediterranean Tradition was established which is a project for the scientific recovery and enhancement of the traditions on herbal remedies studied on the basis of modern life science. The Chair is conceived as cross-disciplinary research centre aimed at transmit knowledge on medicinal/health plants accumulated through the centuries in the Mediterranean region and its aim is protecting, promoting and transmitting heritage on plants for health in the Mediterranean Area. |
