A researcher from the University of the Basque Country Visiting the Laboratories of the UNESCO Chair in Salerno

In June 2025, the UNESCO Chair “Plants for Health in the Mediterranean Traditions” at the University of Salerno had the pleasure of hosting in the laboratories of the Department of Pharmacy (DIFARMA) Dr Oihana Gordobil Goñi, researcher of the Materials + Technologies (GMT) group at the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering of the University of the Basque Country (EHU).

Dr Gordobil’s visit took place within the Visiting Researchers 2025 program of the University of Salerno, for which she was selected under the scientific supervision of Professor Tiziana Esposito.

During her stay, Dr Gordobil carried out research activities focused on the development of polymeric microparticulate systems incorporating bioactive compounds extracted from Mediterranean agro-food by-products, to improve their stability, solubility, and potential applications in cosmetic and pharmaceutical fields.

Her presence provided an important opportunity for exchange and sharing of expertise, fostering a rich and stimulating scientific dialogue. This interexchange laid the foundations for future international collaborations, encouraging the emergence of new project ideas in the field of sustainable valorization of natural resources and Mediterranean supply chains.

At the end of her research period, Dr Gordobil delivered a scientific seminar presenting the preliminary results of the project, offering further insights for the development of joint research initiatives and strengthening the scientific ties between the University of Salerno and the University of the Basque Country.

The UNESCO Chair is confident that the activities initiated during this visit mark only the beginning of a scientific collaboration that will continue to expand and generate significant results in the years to come.
